HOUGH FOUNDATION: Strengthening School and Community Partnerships

Hough School's namesake, Patrick (Paddy) Hough, was an Irish immigrant and pioneer educator beloved in the Vancouver area. He just happens to have been born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

The Hough Foundation sponsors the Paddy Hough Parade to celebrate Hough School's heritage and community. On Paddy Hough Day, the whole school, as well as representatives of local businesses and community groups, dresses up and parades around uptown Vancouver. Hough kids of all ages have a great time!

The parade route starts at 20th and Daniels, at the north end of Hough School. Then we march north on Daniels Street, east on 24th Street, south on Main Street, and finally, west on McLoughlin and back to Hough School. There we have awards and a party in the Hough School auditorium.

This year, we had a real Irishman as our Grand Marshall for the Paddy Hough Parade! He is Liam Horan, a descendent of Paddy Hough who lives in Tipperary, Ireland. He and four family members came all the way to Vancouver to share our special day with us!
